What Is
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is a restorative dental procedure designed to save a tooth that’s become deeply decayed, infected, or injured. Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When this tissue becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain and jeopardize the tooth’s health.
During a root canal, Dr. Goldwater carefully removes the infected pulp, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and seals it with a durable, biocompatible material. This stops the infection, relieves discomfort, and allows you to maintain your natural tooth — preserving proper chewing, bite alignment, and long-term oral health.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING?
Root Canal Therapy?
Your visit begins with a thorough evaluation and digital X-rays to assess the affected tooth. Once Dr. Brandon Goldwater confirms that a root canal is needed, the area is completely numbed for your comfort and isolated with a small dental dam to keep it clean and dry.
Cleaning and Disinfection
Dr. Goldwater creates a small opening in the tooth’s surface to access the infected pulp. Using precise instruments, he removes the diseased tissue, cleans out bacteria and debris, and disinfects the inner canal space to ensure the infection is fully eliminated.
Filling and Sealing
Once the canals are cleaned and shaped, they are filled with a special biocompatible material that seals the tooth from future infection. A temporary or permanent filling is placed to protect the treated area.
Final Restoration
To restore full strength and function, Dr. Goldwater typically places a custom dental crown over the treated tooth. This final step reinforces the structure, enhances durability, and ensures a natural, comfortable bite for years to come.

At Goldwater Dental, we understand that the idea of a root canal can make many patients nervous — but our approach is different. Dr. Brandon Goldwater, DMD uses gentle techniques, advanced imaging, and modern anesthesia to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

OUR APPROACH TO
Root Canal Therapy
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need a root canal?
Common signs include severe or lingering tooth pain, sensitivity to heat or cold, swelling, or the presence of a small bump on your gums near the affected tooth.
Is a root canal painful?
Not at all. Modern root canal therapy is performed under local anesthesia, and most patients describe it as no more uncomfortable than getting a regular filling.
How long does a root canal last?
With proper care, a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy — especially when restored with a crown — can last a lifetime.
What happens if I don’t get a root canal?
Leaving an infected tooth untreated can lead to severe pain, abscess formation, bone loss, and eventual tooth loss. In some cases, the infection can spread to other parts of the body.
