Tooth Extractions

Dentist in Jenkintown, PA

What Is a
Tooth Extractions

A tooth extraction is a common dental procedure where a tooth is carefully removed from its socket in the jawbone. While preserving natural teeth is always the priority, extraction may be necessary when a tooth is severely decayed, damaged, or impacted. It can also be recommended to make space for orthodontic treatment or relieve pain caused by infection or crowding.

By removing problematic teeth, we can protect your overall oral health, prevent complications, and pave the way for future restorative care if needed.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING?
Tooth Extractions?

At Goldwater Dental, every extraction is performed with precision, care, and your comfort in mind. The process varies depending on whether the extraction is simple or surgical.

Simple Extraction

For visible, fully erupted teeth, a simple extraction is performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Goldwater gently loosens the tooth using specialized instruments and carefully removes it with minimal discomfort.

Surgical Extraction

For impacted or partially erupted teeth (such as wisdom teeth), a surgical extraction may be necessary. This involves making a small incision in the gum, possibly removing a small amount of bone, or sectioning the tooth to ensure safe, complete removal.

Aftercare and Recovery

Once the tooth is removed, a gauze pad is placed to control bleeding and promote clot formation. You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions — including resting, eating soft foods, and avoiding straws or smoking — to support healing and prevent complications like dry socket. Mild discomfort or swelling is normal and can be easily managed with prescribed medication.

At Goldwater Dental, we take a conservative and patient-centered approach. Dr. Brandon Goldwater thoroughly evaluates each case to determine whether extraction is truly necessary, exploring all possible options to save your tooth first.
